KATIE — 26, dark-brown eyed, wearing a gray sweatshirt and a skinny jean — and MOM — early 50s, rough skin, wearing a worn out supermarket uniform, hair tightly tied back — sit together in MOM’s car with a Korean radio on. There is an ’I love NY’ and a Statue of Liberty key chain hanging down on the rearview mirror. MOM is attentively listening to the radio and laughing to it, in contrast to KATIE who is scrolling through audition posts on backstage.com. The captions on the posts indicate the auditions are in New York City, where KATIE has just come back from.
